"An
uplifting and
powerful piece
of music...picks
you up, dusts
you off and
tells you that
the bullies were
wrong and aims
to show one how
much self-worth
they have and
how much they
have to offer
the world." -

New York,
NY:
Award-winning
recording
artist Rachael Sage has released the official video for her
single "I
Don't Believe
It",
the first video
from her
recently
released full
length, Choreographic (MPress/ ILS/Caroline).
The video
premiered
Wednesday on PopMatters. In keeping with the album's
"ballet-pop"
theme, "I Don't
Believe It"
features a
stunning array
of dancers
choreographed by
Megan Carvajal
and starring 3-time
national dance
champion, Kaci
King.
Rachael
Sage is a
former dancer
herself, who
attended The
School Of
American
Ballet and
danced with
The New York
City Ballet in
such
Balanchine
ballets as
"The
Nutcracker"
and
"Coppelia". Connecting
to her roots
in ballet, the
NYC-based
Sage "envisioned
each song as a
fully-choreographed
multi-media
experience".
The result is
an inspired
set of
piano-based
chamber-pop
merging
orchestral
elements with
her signature
blend of folk,
pop and rock. "Making
this album was a
meditation on my
lifelong
relationship to
ballet and more
recently, to
lyrical dance.
Dance gave me
virtually
everything I
cherish as an
artist: melody,
expressiveness,
a sense of
ensemble, a love
of costume and
fashion, and
foremost,
discipline."
"'I
Don't Believe
It' is a song
about rising
above someone
who is putting
you down -
whether it be
a strict
teacher,
parent or
other
authority
figure, or a
bully. As
someone who
experienced
bullying
throughout my
grammar school
and later my
high school
years, and who
also struggled
to reconcile
some of the
harsher
teaching
methods during
my ballet
training, I
wanted to
write an
empowering
song that was
fast-moving
and literally
compels you to
shake off
doubt.
"In
the video, our
young
dancer/heroine
(Kaci King)
moves from a
tentative
approach to
her
accomplished
dancing, to a
more inspired,
transcendent
expressiveness,
once she is
able to
overcome her
own doubt and
let go of
trying to be
'perfect' for
her teacher.
We watch her
embrace her
own joy and
power and as
she does,
other diverse,
mature dancers
weave in and
out of the
video,
contrasting
various dance
styles
including tap,
ballroom and
ballet, and
celebrating
the confident,
liberated
dancer inside
all of us." - Rachael Sage
Fresh off
the heels of her 20th music placement and a cameo on Lifetime
TV's Dance
Moms,
Sage and her
music have
reached an
ever-widening
audience since
her previous
release "Blue
Roses", amassing
over 9.5
million views
on YouTube. "Try Try Try", the
first single
off of the new
album is
currently at
#38 and
climbing on
the AC Top 200
chart.

"...Choreographic (is) a colorful work that shares flourishes of Sigur Rós and Kate Bush, and identifies Sage as a divine musical visionary." - Glide Magazine
"...fueled by triumph and feminine resilience." - Baeble Music
"12 original compositions that will make you dance, cry, smile, and move to the beat...In less than 20 years Rachael has accomplished more as an independent artist than some artists signed to a major label have done in a lifetime."
- The Daily Voice
"...sultry yet warm...smoothly melds potentially disparate genres as folk and pop, the string-lined track tells of interpersonal longing with Aimee Mann-like poetic bewitchment." - The Deli Magazine
"Sage wisdom in a chamber-pop package; "It Would Be Enough" might be the most eloquent and perfect David Bowie eulogy to date." - MAGNET Magazine
Sage, who contributed piano and guitar on the
album, is joined by top-notch musicians including violinists
Rachel Golub (Adele) and Lyris Hung (Indigo Girls), cellist
Dave Eggar (A Great Big World), drummer Doug Yowell (Joe
Jackson) and guest vocalists Peter Himmelman and
Matt Nakoa. Featuring 12 brand-new tracks, the album was
co-produced by Sage and Grammy® winner Andy
Zulla (Idina Menzel, Rod Stewart) and
engineered by Grammy® nominee John Shyloski (Johnny
Winter, Diana Ross). A special bonus track, a charming
rendition of Carole King's "So Far Away", will be available
exclusively on the iTunes version.
