ACCLAIMED BALLET-POP ARTIST RACHAEL SAGE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY
NEW
ALBUM CHOREOGRAPHIC
OUT
MAY 20th.
|
New York, NY: Award-winning recording artist and School of American Ballet alumna Rachael Sage is celebrating International Dance Day this year with a choreography contest for dance schools as she gears up for the release of her forthcoming full-length studio album, Choreographic. The album is inspired by her lifelong relationship with dance and is due May 20 (MPress/ILS/Caroline). The dance contest runs from now until May 23, and the school with the best choreography to a song from Choreographic will win $500. You can find more details about the contest at http://bit.ly/RS_DanceContest
Sixteen of Sage’s songs have appeared on the controversial reality TV show “Dance Moms” (including 5 solos by the series’ star Maddie Ziegler), which ignited the idea for Sage to compose an entire album fueled by her own imagined choreography. After so much of her work was embraced by the dance community – with over 9.5 million combined hits on YouTube – she started to wonder if something subconscious in her composer-DNA was inherently geared toward choreography. Rachael said, “As I was thinking about recording a follow-up to my last album ‘Blue Roses’, I asked myself: what if you set about making a whole record with the intention for it be combined with dance?” A few months later, the former-dancer holed up in a London hotel room on tour and wrote an entire album from scratch, inspired by the “ballet-pop” concept, combining orchestral elements with folk, pop and rock.
Currently on tour in support of the new album, Sage has been busy filming a dance-centric music video for the new song "I Don't Believe It", which explores the topic of bullying and will feature 3-time national dance champion Kaci King, an eleven-year-old performer who reached out to Sage on Facebook. You can read the piece the Chicago Tribune recently wrote about Kaci and her experience at the “I Don’t Believe It” video shoot here.
On April 28, PopWrapped exclusively debuted the first behind-the-scenes video from the “I Don’t Believe It” shoot, featuring Kaci and Rachael. You can view it here. Two more behind-the-scenes videos will follow, leading up to the full video premiere in May. .

During her tour, Rachael Sage has also been stopping by dance schools in some of the cities along her tour. You can see some brief clips of Sage’s appearance at the Nashville School of Dance and Music on Sage’s facebook page, and you can also view the school’s entry into the Choreographic dance contest on YouTube.
