Hello friends...and a sparkly welcome to all those who are new to Rachael Sage's Newsletter! Firstly, we must acknowledge that with the recent heartbreaking developments in The Middle East, we know you – our beloved musical community – may be experiencing the "heaviness" of loss in different ways. We at MPress have been praying 24/7 for all of those impacted by the heinous acts of terrorism in Israel, as well as the devastating loss of life in Gaza and the West Bank. And this past week, random gun violence reared its ugly head on our own shores, in the beautiful state of Maine. For the artists among us, in times such as these it may feel that our efforts may not have sufficient meaning or constitute an "appropriate" response. How can we possibly advocate for understanding, for hope, with so much disheartenment and fear in our midst? Nevertheless, ultimately we choose to subscribe to the mission best expressed by the great Leonard Bernstein, below: "But this sorrow and rage will not inflame us to seek retribution; rather they will inflame our art...This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before." And so, we'll strive to continue to stay connected in these challenging times, channelling positivity through the healing power of music, art and poetry – leading with love, always. xo, light, & courage,
