We hope you're all safe, healthy, hunkered down with all the necessities you need, and listening to lots of music in this very surreal extended moment!! We are sending giant virtual hugs from our now-remote MPress headquarters, to each and every one of you — including the doctors, nurses, & all our brave medical professionals!
In lieu of a traditional newsletter, we thought it would be most helpful right now to simply share info and links to brand new music. Rachael's beautiful, reflective new album "Character" came out a week ago. We're all very proud of it, and believe it is her best work so far (yes, we are biased!).
Rest assured, Rachael will be continuing to share her unstoppable creativity on social media until live shows resume, and in the meantime...love & light!
Rachael's brand new album "Character" was released on March 6th. A collection of songs written while she was recovering from endometrial (uterine) cancer, "Character" was co-produced by Rachael & Grammy® Winner Andy Zulla, recorded by Mikhail Pivovarov, and features her band The Sequins, along with a handful of special guests. You can read the full Press Release HERE.
Rachael says: "During the process of writing and creating this record, I was reflecting on the definition of ‘character’ — not only of my own as I navigated my cancer experience, but also of loved ones, medical personnel/fellow patients, as well as our political leaders. It was a kind of bloodletting I suppose... an examination through song of what comprises human character, whether it be ‘exemplary’ or ‘questionable’."
Lovingly co-designed by longtime collaborator Chris Kornmann and Rachael, the album is available in several different formats, 2 of which feature "wearable art" designed by Rachael herself!
Have you seen the latest videos from Rachael for her powerful song "Bravery's On Fire", her string-quartet cover of Ani DiFranco's "Both Hands", and her elegant lyric video for "Character"? Check them out, and please share if you enjoy!
With more time on our hands at home than any of us would have anticipated, why not sit back and read and/or listen to Rachael share her thoughts on her latest album, "Character"? Here's some recent coverage that's come in, to augment your listening and give you the best sense of where your favorite glitterfrau has been coming from recording this new batch of tunes:
Having been on tour with her friend and inspiration Howard Jones since January, Rachael has been performing songs from the new album "Character" – accompanied by Kelly Halloran & Dave Eggar – with audiences from Seattle to Pittsburgh. While we were saddened to have to cancel the remaining March shows, we also know it was the only responsible decision at this time. If you were planning to attend one of her remaining gigs (or regardless!), here are some fun links that'll give you a feel for the tour:
This Friday, March 20 (possibly today, if that's when you are reading this!) at 3pm Eastern time, Rachael will be interviewed live on The Casio Channel to talk about her new album Character, and she will also take your questions live!
